Course Descriptions
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Anatomy and Physiology is the study of the body, its components and how they function. It is the study of how each of the systems work together to function as a whole. Students will study each of the body systems beginning with the integumentary system. Next they will learn the skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, circulatory, lymphatic, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems. Additionally, the skeletal and muscular systems will be taught as a hands-on experience through a wide variety of teaching methods.
- Massage Theory & Application
- This course will cover the history and theory of massage therapy. The five strokes will be closely studied as well as the effects they produce. The theory of how massage causes these effects will also be studied. This course will then cover proper draping techniques, both through verbal instruction and hands on participation. After completion of draping techniques, the endangerment sites will be covered along with variations of each of the five strokes of massage. As students learn the routine, they will also be taught how to take a verbal intake as well as proper communication skills with clients. This course will have both lecture material and interactive, hands on learning time. Students will have ample time to practice the massage skills on each other during class allowing them to feel confident in their skills.
- Anatomy & Kinesiology
- Anatomy is the study of the structures of the human body while Kinesiology is the study of the movement of the human body. This course will involve an in depth study of the human musculoskeletal system as it pertains to the movement of the body and its parts. This class is taught as a lecture course as well as a hands-on course involving the students by tracing muscles as well as sculpting the muscles.
- Medical Terminology
- Medical Terminology is the language of science and medicine. Professionals who use anatomy and physiology need to have a standard terminology in order to communicate clearly and effectively. Medical Terminology is also the understanding of how words are formed in order to understand the definitions associated with each word.
- Pathology
- Students will study how disease affects the human body and what impacts can be made with massage. Students will learn how to discern whether a massage is indicated or contraindicated. If the pathological disorder is contraindicated, the students will learn how to determine what other health care professionals should be consulted to help the client.
- Health History Forms
- Health History Forms and SOAP Charting skills are imperative to Massage Therapists. Health History forms help massage therapists gain an understanding of the client’s health and needs. They provide the necessary information to aid the therapist in determining whether the massage is indicated or contraindicated as well the main problem / concern of the client for that appointment.
- SOAP Charting
- SOAP charting enables the massage therapist to keep an accurate record of the client’s response to massage by utilizing a universal system that incorporates both what the client tells the therapist and what the therapist may notice / palpate while working with the client. SOAP charting allows therapists to keep important information organized and clearly documented for each client and it is the tool we use to communicate with other health care practitioners.
- Hydrotherapy
- Hydrotherapy is an introduction to utilizing water as a source for increasing the body’s natural ability to recover from overuse or injury. This course teaches the students when it is appropriate to use ice, heat, sauna, steam, hot / cold showers and paraffin treatments.
- Ethics & Communicable Diseases
- This course will assist students in understanding the laws, rules, regulations, limitations and obligations concerning massage therapy. It will provide an opportunity and guidance in establishing a code of ethics as a massage professional. It will outline the acceptable behaviors and practices. This course will define professional hygiene and health habits for massage therapists.
In addition students will explore and define the personal and professional definitions for Ethical Practices, Confidentiality and Integrity.
- Nutrition
- This course emphasizes not only the importance of good nutrition for the massage therapist, but also the importance of healthy food sources and food purity.
- Reflexology
- Students will be introduced to the basic technique of Reflexology and understand its theory that direct pressure applied to specific areas on the feet stimulates corresponding areas in other parts of the body. Students will also learn by hands on the techniques used to apply pressure to the feet such as thumb walking, finger walking, and hook and backup.
- Aromatherapy
- In this course students will learn how to use essential oils and carrier oils. They will learn how the oils can affect the mind and the body. They will learn the difference between natural and synthetic oils, the benefits of aromatherapy and how to use it in a massage practice.
- Polarity Therapy

- CPR / First-Aid
- Each student needs to complete training in Adult CPR and standard first-aid.
- Business and Professional Practice
- Students will learn how to develop a business plan, market themselves and their profession, types of marketing strategies available, and which area is most beneficial for them to use in their practice. Students will learn the ins and outs of taxes for the massage therapist.
